Trial balance of companies and organizations which pay state taxes. Instead of amounts, most entries are in the form of check marks unless unpaid. The volumes are divided into four sections: foreign corporations, gross receipts, distilled spirits, and interest on deposits. They are further subdivided into public service, finance, bank and trust companies, and non-stock associations.

The office of Comptroller of the Treasury was established by the Constitution of 1851 to "have the general superintendence of the fiscal affairs of the state."
